Sleepover Show #134: Ben Sollee
We can now say that we’ve filmed a fun set with Ben Sollee and shared some ice cream with him. Not a bad afternoon, we must say. Showing up at the Taza factory up in Somerville, we were immediately struck by Ben’s complete down to earth demeanor. He helped carry in the gear. We scouted the location together. We sampled some tasty chocolates. And then we filmed a few songs right there in the store, surrounded by said delights. It was a few days before the Newport Folk Festival (where he joined in with so many performances that he almost seemed like the house musician for the weekend).
We talked a little while before and after the set about his future plans. Hopefully you all know that his latest album was released just a short while ago. But Ben also talked to us about his plans to learn even more about his instrument, perhaps heading back to school and learning a bit more about composing. Now, we love us some Ben Sollee already, but we’ll wait in happy anticipation for Sollee the composer, or any new material.
For now, you can enjoy these three songs, and we’re pretty sure we’ll be working with this talented cellist again in the future.
Ben is currently on tour and stops at Brighton Music Hall in Allston tonight!
