Sleepover Show #127: Hoots and Hellmouth
It was a bit of a cold day when we met up with Hoots and Hellmouth to record a few songs off their latest release, Salt. With the wind blowing around outside, and the warm house available to us, we decided to record right there in the living room. Soon, the space was filled with instruments being tuned, voices warmed, and feet stomping.
And the band turned the unassuming space into a raucous hootenanny. We’re always amazed when just a handful of musicians can enliven the smallest of rooms and fill it with their song. We imagine you’ll be stomping along as well as the music picks up. We hope so.
The band is touring straight through the fall, and they are a live act not to be missed. If you’d like to see the comfy confines of this show transported right to the stage, do yourself a favor and go see them.
Why Would You Not Want To Go There? Is a song that weaves a vivid and wondrous-sounding place before it asks the title question in the chorus. We would want to go there if we had the chance.
Great Day in the Morning is a tune we found ourselves singing days after the show, and days after editing the video. Sean Hoots’ lyrics stick with you, even after hearing just one performance.
I Don’t Mind Your Cussing is a little quieter, but still wonderful song. We also really love the thumbs up that Sean gives the camera at the very end.
