Sleepover Show #131: Lisa Hannigan
We were looking forward to meeting Lisa Hannigan in person after having listened to her voice for many years accompanying Damien Rice on the albums O and 9 Crimes. She has since moved on and started a solo career with her debut album, Sea Sew in 2008 and most recently released the album Passenger. It’s easy to recognize why she has received critical acclaim in her native country of Ireland as well as in the United States, her voice effortlessly moves from note to note in almost a dream-like whisper, her songs capture you instantly.
From the hallway of Paradise Rock Club we watched as she stepped from a taxicab and unloaded her guitar from the car’s trunk. She was all smiles as she introduced herself and asked if we wouldn’t mind waiting a few minutes for the rest of the band. We set up for the show in a narrow space near the green room for the show, pausing in between one song for a few kegs to be rolled to the upstairs bar.
And then we watched as a simple, dark, mirrored hallway became a mini-stage from which Hannigan and company delivered three beautiful songs, all of which can be found on Hannigan’s newest album, Passenger. We hope you’ll agree. Enjoy the videos.
