We met up with Bhi [...]
Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack greeted us warmly pre-show at Boston’s branch of House of Blues. The duo hails from Baltimore, Maryland and formed in 2006, they initially chose the name Monarch before opting for an even prouder moniker and calling themselves after their state tree: Wye Oak. Their new album, Civilian, came out in March of this year and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet up with them while they were on tour with The Decemberists. We chatted a bit before getting down to business, we had to find some place to record, and so we wandered around House of Blues looking for an appropriate place to set up for our Sleepover Show- The Decemberists sound check was lovely, but a bit too noisy to accommodate Wye Oak’s acoustic set. We eventually came upon a perfect spot and Jenn and Andy quickly secured it for us.
First up is Civilian, the title track of their new album. A haunting song with lyrics that resonate, “Perfectly able to hold my own hand / But I still can’t kiss my own neck”
The second video is My Neighbor, a track off of the EP My Neighbor / My Creator that was recorded in a basement studio near Baltimore.
Last up this week is the song Hot As Day.
Wye Oak is getting ready to kick off their European tour on June 4th in Paris, France. If you can’t see them there, make sure to go get the album, and enjoy the videos!

I saw their Tiny Desk Concert @ NPR a while back and was well impressed as I am with this here… a bit weird that mine is the only, or at least first, comment!!!
